Migrants in the city

Weeks into the semester we had to find a migrant ran business in Phoenix. Since I had been in Phoenix for only 3 weeks, I thought I would have a hard time. I wanted to have an experience that felt close to home, so I looked up Asian restaurants near me. I came across a restaurant called Halo- Halo Kitchen which had Filipino cuisine. Perfect!

Also in this section you will find an essay on my civic engagement with refugees in Phoenix from Myanmar, Somalia, Congo, and Afghanistan. The people I engaged with do not speak English very well. My role was to help them learn English through software programs like Rosetta Stone and to get used to dialogue. From my experience, I integrate concepts on citizenship and civil society to the idea of lived democracy.
